
Kathleen Mattis
Kathleen Mattis was appointed to the position of Associate Principal Viola of the Saint Louis Symphony at the age of 21. An avid chamber musician, she is currently a member of the Amabile Piano Quartet and was a founding member of the Trio Cassatt. She may be heard on a recent recording on the Summit label with the Amabile Quartet featuring the music of Brahms, Turina and Frank Bridge, as well as other performances on the Vox and Laurel label. For the past five years Ms. Mattis has been on the artist faculty of the Aspen Music Festival & School and serves as the principal violist of the Aspen Festival Orchestra. She is currently on the artist-faculty roster of Washington University. Ms. Mattis graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California where she studied with Eudice Shapiro, Milton Thomas, and Charles and Heidi Castleman. She has performed throughout the State of Missouri as a recipient of a grant from the Missouri Arts Council's touring program.
