Buddhism & Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha
February 18, 2012 2:00-4:00pm
Hermann Hesse (1877–1962) enjoyed a lifelong fascination with India. His novel Siddhartha: An Indian Poem (1922) uses basic Buddhist concepts for reflecting on his own spiritual process.
Join curatorial assistant Sydney Norton for a tour of the exhibition Reflections of the Buddha. She will speak about the artworks, focusing on the events in the historical Buddha’s life. A discussion will follow about how Hesse represented these events and why he included some Buddhist precepts while rejecting others.
Free admission. Space is limited. Contact Sydney Norton at snorton@pulitzerarts.org or 314-754-1854 to register.
