Inspired by the exhibition Dreamscapes, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts and Cinema St. Louis are celebrating "the dream sequence" with a filmmaking contest and a night of viewing at the Pulitzer.
Call for Entries: Dreamscapes Shorts
The Pulitzer and Cinema St. Louis are asking for submissions of short, silent films, which include dream-related content, to be shown on June 24 at 8 p.m. Select films will be projected in loops on surfaces outside at the Pulitzer. At 9 p.m., a first-prize winner will be showcased in the Pulitzer’s courtyard and awarded $500.
View contest guidelines at cinemastlouis.org.
Un Chien Andalou and The Phantom of Liberty
Following the contest winner, two films directed by Luis Buñuel, Un Chien Andalou and The Phantom of Liberty, will play in the courtyard. Both films are known for their bizarre and surreal imagery. Un Chien Andalou is one of the most well-known surrealist films from the 1920s and was co-produced by artist Salvador Dalí.
NOTE OF WARNING: Luis Buñuel’s films both contain adult content, and viewer discretion is advised. Find out more about these films at www.imdb.com.
Dream Sequences: Film Night at the Pulitzer with Cinema St. Louis is free and open to the public; no tickets necessary. Refreshments will be served. Visitors may come and go freely.
