Ideal (Dis-) Placements: Old Masters at the Pulitzer
October 24, 2008 5:00pm - 9:00pm

Join us as we celebrate the opening of our next exhibition Ideal (Dis-) Placements: Old Masters at the Pulitzer on Friday, October 24 from 5-9pm.

The Pulitzer has joined forces with the Saint Louis Art Museum and Harvard Art Museum to present Old Master paintings and drawings from their collections to interact with the architecture of Tadao Ando.

The exhibition is composed of artworks by renowned artists from the 14th to 18th centuries, including Michelangelo Buonarroti, Pontormo, Giambattista Tiepolo, Jacob van Ruisdael and Jean-Baptiste Greuze.  Since Ando sought the effects of ever-changing daylight at the Pulitzer, the visitor will be able to see the majority of thew orks without the assistance of electric lighting, which was introduced to museums at the turn of the 20th century.  This contributes to a better understanding of the viewing conditions of the past and to revitalizing our perceptions of these works in the future.
