Born in 1967 in Demark, the Berlin-based artist Olafur Eliasson is one of the most active and recognized artists of his generation. His 2003/2004 Tate Modern exhibition, The Weather Project, has drawn enormous international attention. Eliasson's installations, photographs, objects, and architectural projects explore new forms of perceiving our natural, technological, and highly mediated environments.
The discussion at the Pulitzer was a continuation of the lecture given earlier in the evening by Eliasson at the Sam Fox School of Art and Design at Washington University. The discussion focused in particular on the connection between technology, art and the kind of responses this might trigger in the viewer. As the panel was presented within the context of the exhibition, Minimalism and Beyond, Eliasson’s own relationship with Minimalism and how it has shaped his work was also discussed.
Panelists: Olafur Eliasson, Sabine Eckmann (Mildred Lane Kemper Museum, Washington University), Matthias Waschek (the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts)
