Matisse/Kelly Conference

Overview

This conference was held on April 25, 2002 in conjunction with two openings – Selected Works by Ellsworth Kelly from Saint Louis Collections at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, and Henri Matisse/Ellsworth Kelly: Plant Drawings at the Saint Louis Art Museum. The two institutions invited artists, collectors, students, and university and museum professionals to generate a day-long dialogue about the work of Matisse and Kelly. Ellsworth Kelly was in attendance and was a featured speaker. Other speakers included Roberta Bernstein (Professor of Art History, State University of New York at Albany), Yve-Alain Bois (Professor of Modern Art, Harvard University), Éric de Chassey (Curator, Centre national d'art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, Paris), Jay Fisher (Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs, Baltimore Museum of Art), John Klein (Professor of Art History, University of Missouri), Rémi Labrusse (Curator, Centre national d'art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, Paris), and Alfred Pacquement (Director, Centre national d'art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, Paris). Approximately 45 people attended.
