St. Louis is fortunate to have a large number of sculpture and drawings by Richard Serra in public and private collections. With much of this work on view in the Fall of 2003, the Pulitzer and the Saint Louis Art Museum co-sponsored a scholarly discussion on October 3, 2003. The two institutions invited artists, collectors, students, and university and museum professionals to generate a day-long dialogue about the work of Serra. The participants visited the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Pulitzer, and various site-specific sculpture around St. Louis, along the way discussing various facets of Serra’s work. Invited to speak were Michelle Barger, Associate Conservator of Objects, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Michael Brenson, Independent writer and scholar; and Robert Storr, Professor of Art History, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and former Senior Curator, Museum of Modern Art, New York.
