The Pulitzer Announces Extension of Exhibition Brancusi and Serra in Dialogue
July 1, 2005

St. Louis, MO – The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts announces the extension of its current exhibition, Brancusi and Serra in Dialogue. The show, originally scheduled to close July 23rd, will now remain open through September 24, 2005.

The extension gives visitors more time to approach the work of two major artists within the contemplative setting of the Tadao Ando-designed Pulitzer building. Constantin Brancusi’s work helped establish modernist concepts of form and abstraction, and he is considered to be a central figure in twentieth century art. Richard Serra, who recently opened an acclaimed installation at the Guggenheim in Bilbao, is arguably one of the most important artists of our time.

With this exhibition, the Pulitzer encourages the visitor to experience the art and the architectural space in a dialogue that goes beyond telling an art historical story. The pieces spring to life within their specific placement in the building.

The sculpture, drawings, and photographs that comprise the installation have been generously lent by major museums including the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University; the Guggenheim Museum in New York City; the National Gallery in Washington DC; the Philadelphia Art Museum; and the Saint Louis Art Museum.

An online exhibition catalogue is available on the Pulitzer website (www.pulitzerarts.org). The catalogue features detailed images, descriptive texts, and Quicktime videos providing 360-degree views of the space.

The next exhibition at the Pulitzer will be Minimalism and Beyond, opening October 15, 2005 and continuing through April 26, 2006. Minimalist artists from the 1960s will be presented, along with artists of a younger generation who have both redefined and continued the Minimalist legacy. More information on this exhibition will follow.

The Pulitzer is open Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, visit www.pulitzerarts.org.
